Oklahoma wildlife is totally supported by the local habitats. Oklahoma wildlife supports the migrating songbirds as well as the shorebirds, the state bird, Flycatcher and the scissor tailed bird. The Oklahoma forests in the east are abundant with salamanders, songbirds and bats. The rivers in Oklahoma are impressive and there is a diversity of freshwater mussels and fish. The western Oklahoma prairies have rare species scattered globally such as the swift fox, prairie chicken, the Texas horned lizard, and long billed curlew. The western Oklahoma private lands are also a true home to a unique as well as interesting diversity. The western lands possess prairie chickens, horny toads, elks, and scissortail flycatchers. The chambers of commerce, wildlife enthusiasts, town governments and many volunteers have joined hands to work for establishing Oklahoma wild life and to provide support.
The Selman bat cave is filled with more than a million free tailed bats, though these are highly considered to be a farmer’s friend. This bat cave is situated near the Alabaster Caverns State Park. Bats are a part of this large landscape. The Oklahoma wildlife conservation department is giving utmost importance to the bats and all the other prairie species. The Selman bat cave areas are open for the public only during particular summer bat observing dates. Bison’s are found freely roaming at the Wichita mountains national wildlife areas. This refuge is near Lawton in Oklahoma; offering a distinct view of the past. Tourists can see the free roaming bison’s, elks, prairie dogs, burrowing owls and Texas longhorns. At rare occasions, one can get an opportunity to view the black capped vireo from the Mount Scott Peak. In addition to this, focuses on those hunted and fished species are also one of the main tourist attractions.
